How To Stay Safe Under The Sun

. Thursday, 14 February 2008

  • Pick a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF-15 for your body. Apply a generous dollop from the neck down about 15 to 30 minutes before hitting the outoors. Be diligent about oft-overlooked spots such as behind the ears, in the crook of your arm, between the fingers and toes, bihind the knees, and the tops of te feet. Clothing does not offer full protection you still need to wear sunscreen underneath it.

  • For your face, apply about one teapoon of SPF-15 oil free lotion, avoiding the eyes area. If you've been using Retin-A, retiol, and AHA product, or have been taking Accuratane or certain antibiotics, switch o a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 as these products make skin more sensitive to unlight. Liberally coat lips with an SPF 15 lip balm and reapply frequently-namely, after eating and drinking.

  • Chemical sunscreens can aggrtivate sensitive skin. If you're prone to irritation, opt for a physical block with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead.

  • Remember to bring a hat, a pair of sunglasses, as well as an umbrella. Reapply sunsreen every two hours, even if the label read "waterproof" or "sweetproof"

  • Happy Valentine Day
